The Ames Documentary Film Festival showcases powerful nonfiction storytelling through short films, each under 40 minutes. The festival will be held at the Ames Public Library, bringing the community together to experience compelling documentary storytelling in Downtown Ames. Home to Iowa State University, the festival reflects the community’s spirit of innovation while creating a space where filmmakers, scholars, and audiences come together to explore real stories and ideas that shape our world.

The Ames Documentary Film Festival celebrates short-form nonfiction storytelling, bringing powerful films and thoughtful conversations to the heart of Ames.
We are thrilled to partner with the Octagon Art Festival and bring the art of storytelling to the heart of Downtown Ames.
The Octagon Art Festival, in its 55th year has become a favorite event for locals while also bringing in people from all around the nation. Bringing in about 8,000 people for the fourth Sunday in September, we are looking forward to hosting the first film festival next to the Octagon Art Festival.
